Description
This is an Escape Room activity targeting fractions standards from grade 4. The activity focuses on fraction equivalency, comparing fractions, adding and subtracting fractions with same denominator, decomposing fractions, and multiplying fractions by whole numbers.
An Escape Room is an adventure in which players solve a series of puzzles using clues, hints, and strategies to complete the objectives at hand.
In this Escape Room, students are presented with a situation. They have been locked in a basement and must solve a crime that has been committed in their neighborhood. In order to solve the crime, they must solve 4 puzzles. Each puzzle gives them a key, which the teacher holds, and gives to each team as they successfully complete each puzzle.
The activity is designed to be played in small groups. Teacher forms teams. I suggest no more than 5 students in a team.
