Description
This is an Escape Room activity targeting fractions standards from grade 3. The activity focuses on fraction equivalency, representing fractions, comparing fractions, fractions on a number line, and fractions as whole numbers.
An Escape Room is an adventure in which players solve a series of puzzles using clues, hints, and strategies to complete the objectives at hand.
In this Escape Room, students are presented with a situation. They have been locked in a basement and must solve a crime that has been committed in their neighborhood. In order to solve the crime, they must solve 4 puzzles. Each puzzle gives them a key, which the teacher holds, and gives to each team as they successfully complete each puzzle.
The activity is designed to be played in small groups. Teacher forms teams. I suggest no more than 5 students in a team.
