As a teacher, there is nothing more exciting than Back to School season. The smell of fresh crayons and all the shiny, colorful school supplies fills our soul with so much happiness. Great back to school activities add to the list.
Great Back-to-School activities.
But, the stress of looking for that perfect Back-to-School activity is sometimes too much to bear. We want our kids to have an unforgettable first week of school. I know many districts require those pesky baseline tests and there is nothing more upsetting for kids than sitting through days of testing when all they want is get to know their teacher and classmates.
So maybe, after they complete those tests, they can have fun with fun, engaging back to school activities that will also serve as great classroom displays for the whole year.
Great Back-to-School activities
I have put together a list of super fun back to school activities for you to try with your students.
And there’s a freebie link at the end of this post for you to enjoy.
BACK TO SCHOOL ESCAPE ROOM
This is an Escape Room activity targeting multiple math skills. Questions include addition, subtraction, place value, and word problems. The tasks are leveled so it can be used with multiple grade levels. Most appropriate for grades 2-4. Please note that since this is a BACK TO SCHOOL activity some tasks are purely used for icebreakers so no math skills are used.
In this Escape Room, students are presented with a situation. It is the first day of school and they have been locked inside the auditorium and must open all locks so they can meet their teacher. In order to do so, they must solve 4 puzzles. Each puzzle gives them a key, which the teacher holds, and gives to each team as they successfully complete each puzzle.
